Design & Specification
Devana has experience working with many businesses and self-builders during the design and specification processes. Devana can offer unique and tailored insulation solutions for your particular project. We have the capabilities to handle all sizes and types of projects, working closely with specifiers, architects, and construction teams.
Our Cellulose Fibre Insulation has been used in standard construction projects for over 40 years in the UK. It easily achieves construction performance regulatory standards whilst also meeting high performance levels for Passive House construction. Our insulation offers excellent thermal insulation properties with a high value of specific heat capacity of material. The thermal conductivity of Cellulose Fibre Insulation is just 0.038W/m2K.
The performance of cellulose insulation undoubtedly exceeds the performance of fibreglass, as proven in many studies. Cellulose Insulation is 36% more airtight than fibreglass and, combined with its greater thermal mass, homes can be 4°C warmer overnight. As a result, 26.4% less energy is required in comparison to fibreglass. In fact, the complete, high-density fill of Cellulose Fibre Insulation in a timber-frame house can increase airtightness by 30%.
Cellulose Fibre Insulation has hygroscopic properties which benefit moisture control within the building. The designed use of internal vapour control layers and ‘breathable’ layers of Cellulose Fibre Insulation ensures the longevity of the structure. This design also removes any interstitial condensation risk and minimises the potential for mould growth or structural damage.
Cellulose Fibre Insulation is comprised of at least 85% recycled material and uses less energy to manufacture compared to other types of insulation. Cellulose Fibre Insulation is also an inert material with no off-gassing of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). It is the ideal insulation choice for sustainability and environmental friendliness.
The combination of the high thermal resistance values and much greater density achieved with cellulose insulation makes it the ideal thermal insulator. The lambda value of cellulose insulation is comparable with alternative insulations including fibreglass, rockwool, and expanded polystyrene. However, unlike these alternatives, Cellulose Fibre Insulation holds the heat for longer, providing superior thermal mass in comparison.
Cellulose Insulation is also an effective soundproofing element when applied to walls and floors. The randomness of the fibres in the insulation dissipates the acoustic energy whilst the high-performance air-tightness prevents gaps leaking sound. Using Cellulose Fibre Insulation in combination with different layers of materials and air gaps can achieve an excellent level of acoustic insulation. Designers can also specify cellulose insulation to meet sound resistance regulations during constructions. Panels filled with cellulose insulation have achieved certification for Robust Details in accordance with Part E of Building Regulations.
When installed into walls, Cellulose Fibre Insulation offers superior decrement delay by reducing solar overheating and maintaining a more stable temperature with reduced fluctuations between days and nights. This decrement delay is achieved owing to the high specific heat capacity of 2020 ± 6% J/kg.K.
We can offer cost-effective solutions that are specific to your project. When evaluating the installation costs, Devana offers an extremely good cost advantage over PIR foams. In many cases, we have found that Cellulose Fibre Insulation is up to 50% cheaper in material costs and requires 80% less time on site.
